Australian Shepherds like Piper have the most interesting eyes. They can range from very light blue to deep brown, including both colors in one eye, like this one.

At the Kentucky State Fair is a special barn for mules and jacks. Mules are the offspring of mares (female horses) and jacks (male donkeys). Mules cannot reproduce.
I don’t know if this is a mule or a jack. I don’t think I asked enough questions.

Hello Colonel!
Remember Colonel Foghorn Leghorn? Doesn’t this fellow remind you of him just a little bit?
This was just one of the many characters I met over the weekend at the Kentucky State Fair. You’ll be hearing more about that later but I just couldn’t wait to share this photograph of a a giant rooster with you.

This little dog grew up around an elderly beagle and learned to speak (howl?) that language at a very young age. Nobody has ever explained to her that 7 pounds of miniature pincher/miniature dachshund isn’t supposed to sound like that.
Here she is, howling. Can you hear it?
After weeks of Adia–all-the-time saying “look at me” and “take my picture” we’re back to Piper, our 75 pounds of big-love, shaggy-haired Australian Shepherd.
He’s sooooo much harder to photograph because he never sits still long enough to focus. Here’s a goofy but cute view of Piper’s nostrils. Hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

Adia spends her time in relaxation mode except when she’s barking at faraway noises in the night, the ones only SHE can hear. Only dog people can be awakened by nighttime barking and fall back soundly asleep in minutes. Agree?
